COVID-19 & Family Legal Matters in North Carolina

Written by Jonathan Breeden

COVID-19 has impacted the lives of many North Carolina families in and around Johnston, Harnett, and Wake Counties. As the situation continues to evolve, Breeden Law Office wants to reassure our clients and the communities that we serve that we are taking this situation seriously, and putting safety measures in place that prioritize the health and well-being of our clients and staff. We also want to ensure you get the answers and consummate legal guidance you expect.

As a firm, we are carefully monitoring and adhering to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), NC Department of Health and Human Services, other government agency guidance, and staying abreast of any changes or updates.

Attorney Jonathan Breeden and our staff have been advised on the practical measures to help stem the tide of COVID-19, including regular hand washing, the use of hand sanitizer, frequently disinfecting commonly touched areas, and social distancing whenever possible. This involves using video and phone conferences and communicating via phone and e-mail to limit in-person interaction.

If you are an existing client and have a question about your divorce, a custody issue, or a pending family law case in light of the COVID 19 pandemic, please call (919) 661-4970 or send us a message online.

We are also accepting new clients, performing multiple consultations daily, and are available during normal hours.

We’re Available to You & Working

Our attorneys and staff are currently working to address your needs and questions.

We know how serious your situation is and the impact this is having in households across the region. We will work to ensure these unprecedented events do not unfairly impact your legal issue.

Our team is continuing to work all of our cases as normal and have been in contact with all of our current clients. We can work remotely if we need to and our operations will not be affected if we cannot actually come to the office.

The courts are still open in North Carolina so we can go to the courthouse and file documents or we can mail the Clerk of Court any necessary filings. We can also file new actions and motions as needed.

We’ll Keep You Informed

We are closely monitoring all client deadlines, court closures, and will continue to keep you updated.

If the situation continues to progress, we will explore all available options to provide you with the best possible representation. This may include using video depositions and testimony, e-document filing, and other tools should the need arise.

North Carolina Court Closures & Suspended Services

The state courts in North Carolina are not currently closed but they are only conducting emergency hearings for custody and domestic violence protective orders until at least April 20, 2020. In addition, some deadlines have bee pushed back.

If you have a case scheduled, please reach out to discuss how the closure affects your situation.

COVID-19: NC Custody & Visitation

With the current situation, many people have pressing concerns about their custody and child support hearings being postponed. We understand the position you may be in, with little to no access to your children and without a timely hearing to award visitation.

We sympathize with this unfortunate delay, but we are committed to helping you find a solution that works for your family.

You Can Always Reach Us

Your case and the dedicated service at Breeden Law Office provides will not be interrupted despite this uniquely challenging time. We appreciate your patience and we will continue to bring you updates.

We are meeting with clients as needed and taking consultations for those seeking our services once everything is running normally.

Our family lawyers and staff are available at (919) 661-4970.

We’re All In this Together

We hope that you and your families are safe. Thank you for your patience and flexibility. We truly appreciate your choice in deciding to work with an attorney who will fight for you no matter what. We look forward to continuing to work together to resolve your current and future legal issues
